At the beginning of a new project its always difficult to get going, but as someone (mentor) once said to me “just make work and the ideas will come”. So I decided to start a simple tree woodcut 2ft by 2ft, I spent all day friday drawing the image, unfortunately when packing the car for the journey back to Limerick I left the mdf woodcut behind me in the Kilkenny Arts Centre car park. Three very rainy days later our arts co-ordinator Mary located it up for me and luck was on my side it remained intact, even though I was hoping a brand new image would emerge. It is now cut and hand printed using the back of a wooden spoon (image below). It is good to get the mishap out of the way early on in the residency. I wonder what other dramas are in store for me…Deirdre

Art at No. 76

The aim and focus of the Art Residency at No. 76 is to enable the successful applicant to research and develop their practice. Other aims of the residency are to: give insights into how and why artists create their work, build relationships and further promote the Arts, provide an awareness and further appreciation of the Arts, cultivate and develop new audiences.
